994473_285643531628328_1046611895583741598_n[1]After featuring Risk  on Nahhhhh a little while back, we finally had the opportunity to interview Brendan. Unfortunately, Risk has announced their break up as of yesterday. However, they are still planning one final show and have released their long awaited EP, From The Depths, on Bandcamp. Keep your eyes peeled for the last show announcement via their Facebook page.

What hardcore albums have had the biggest impact on you personally?

The most important albums to me are Abyss by Shipwreck, Birth is Pain by Ringworm, Levithian by Mastodon, are these our lives by trial, and everything HAMMER BROS has ever put out.

Has Risk changed over the years? If so, how?

Risk has definitely changed over the years, when we started we had no idea what we were going to be doing as a band, let alone write musically. We’ve finally come into our own in every sense and know what we want to do.

What does Anchor’s Up! mean to you?

Anchors Up is the sickest place on earth. I’ve met 99% of my best friends there. Went to my first actual hardcore show there. There is no venue out there that does it like AU does.

What are some of your favorite records that dropped this year?

Collateral Damage by Rude Awakening and the Suburban Scum split with Xibalba are awesome. Also the Heavy Chains demo is badass.

What advice would you give kids looking to get into their local hardcdore scene?

Just be yourself man, hit the pit, say hi to everyone, we’re here for a good time, not a long time.

You can tour with any rapper. Who would it be?

Do you have any pre-show rituals?

I personally stretch. I move around a lot and pulling muscles aren’t fun.

When can we expect new music?

Our new 7″ record, From The Depths is due out on Prospect Records sometime in late 2014/early 2015. It’ll be our first official release since 2012. It took us a year and a half to write and I can’t wait to show it to all my friends. We have a new song on our bandcamp, check it out!

Shout outs?

Class Struggle, Dealbreaker, Floods, Futile Justice, Ends Meet, Caught in a Crowd, Rude Awakening, Stranglehold, War Cross, Apes of Wrath, Brain Fracture, Swamps, Test of Time, No Friends, Pushing On, Dirty Work, East Beast, Prospect Records, DETHLAB Records, Arrest Records, Frequency Deleted Records, AU/VC, Billerica, Pinehurst, and everyone in between.
